Tom rented a house in Venice using his real name and told Venice police that he was still alive.When Lavigne came to question him, his disguise was quite successful.Tom is welcomed into Venice's high society because everyone is curious about Dicky, who the media calls “the fugitive playboy”.Maggie Sherwood also came to Venice, and they attended a party hosted by Pekin Guggenheim.Herbert Greenleaf arrived in Italy and received this account of his son's death: Dick, frustrated by his failure as an artist, committed suicide.Maggie sends Lavigne a book about Atrani, which surprises Lavigne with a real-life photo of Dick Greenleaf.
