Tom Ripley confesses his father's plan to Dick Greenleaf.Dick Greenleaf was moved by Tom Ripley's sincerity and invited him to live in his villa.Dick and Tom meet Freddy Miles, a wealthy playwright who does not trust Tom very much; Freddy Miles proposes that Dick and Maggie spend Christmas with him on a skiing trip to Cortina.Tom Ripley wrote to Herbert Greenleaf, asking him for more funds.Dickie sees Tom Ripley wearing his clothes and asks Tom if he has a crush on him, but Tom denies it.
