Fifteen years after leaving New York, Derong Chen returns to the city with a new character."A Dark Cloud Falls in New York," starring her and directed by Wang Ziqi, recently held a launch press conference in New York, with the main creators and domestic and foreign cast and crew present. This short film is the fourth unit of New York Stories. The story falls into the immigrant life, family relationships and psychological dilemmas of overseas Chinese.

Talking about the reasons for taking the role, Chen Derong first talked about the script. She was moved by the family emotions, especially the understanding and conflicts between the three generations of mother, herself and her children. In her opinion, the difficulties of living in a foreign country are often hidden in these close relationships.Although it is only a short film in length, the story has a complete structure and real emotions. After reading it, she agreed to star in it with little hesitation. She is familiar to the audience for her works such as "Three Plum Blossom Lanes" and "Yilian Meng". She has more than 30 years of acting experience and still hopes to try different characters. This time when she comes back, she is happy and curious about new roles, looking forward to performing the difficult life of overseas Chinese.

The "Black Cloud" in the film's title has a specific reference in Wang Ziqi's creative vision. She described New York as full of opportunities, but also accompanied by a huge sense of loneliness. The psychological burden and emotional difficulties that urbanites bear in the hustle and bustle are what this work focuses on.“Dark Clouds” symbolizes the long-standing gloom in the heart, while “Fall” means letting go, breaking the shackles, and beginning self-salvation.

“We hope to use high-quality audio-visual language to show the resilience of overseas Chinese looking for light in the gaps in life.”Wang Ziqi said at the press conference.

Guests also included Luo Man, chairman of the New York Sino-U.S. Cultural Exchange Association, senior adviser to the office of New York State Assemblyman Kim Duixi, and Annie Gao, founder of Allianz Insurance in New York. The guests addressed the director and creators and sent their blessings for the launch.
