My childhood alien friend is back - Allen - available on Netflix on November 12

Twenty years after Petey lost his best friend, the other person finally came back.Netflix has released an official trailer for the Australian science fiction comedy Allen, which will be released globally on November 12.This is the first feature film of Bluey production company Ludo Studio. It uses real-life performances combined with CG alien characters. The story takes place in a sunny seaside town in Queensland.

The trailer first uses home videos to go back to Petey's childhood: he once became friends with an alien with big eyes and a love for snacks, and the two later experienced a painful separation. As an adult, Petey is played by T.J. Ball. He works an unproductive job in a store. His friends urge him to grow up, but he is still stuck in the past, sending signals to deep space with electronic keyboard melodies at night.

Until a huge sphere like a disco mirror ball crashes onto the beach and Alan appears again. There was also a misunderstanding after a long separation: Alan looked at the grown-up Petey and thought that the adult had eaten his childhood friend.

The two played carnival games together and relived old times, but people around them gradually began to suspect that Allen was not just gathering with friends when he came back across half the galaxy. The trailer then showed scenes of burning overturned vehicles, mysterious energy beams, police dog searches, etc., and the peaceful town fell into chaos.Alan also asked if he was a “bad guy” for ruining Petey's life.

Netflix describes the film as a heartwarming story about friendship and adventure. The report summarized the nostalgia of the trailer with E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial 20 years later, and also mentioned Paul starring Simon Pegg and Nick Frost. These are comparisons of temperaments, not adaptations.

Creator Daley Pearson said that the story is about love, family, and the big and small things in childhood that ultimately shape adulthood. He shot in the place where he grew up and was inspired by the relatives and friends he grew up with. He hoped to make a film that his family could watch together.

Starring T.J. Ball previously appeared in Eat Pray Love and The Sapphires.Other cast members include Charlotte Nickdow as Carly, Josh Helman as Jaden, Emily Barclay as Sara, Benedict Hardy as Rory, Chayden Jay as Roy, and Kaipo Heke as Nahuel.Caitlin Niemotko and Edward O’Sullivan play young Carly and Petey respectively.

Nick Dow has appeared in Mythic Quest, Herman has participated in Mad Max: Fury Road and X-Men: Days of Future Past; Barclay's works include Please LikeMe) and Babyteeth, Hardy starred in Upgrade, Jay starred in Elvis, and Heke participated in The Bluff.

Pearson created the film and co-directed it with Jeffrey Walker; Pearson and Sophie Miller served as screenwriters.Walker previously directed The Artful Dodger and Apple Cider Vinegar, and Miller participated in Thou Shalt Not Steal.Pearson's existing works include The Strange Chores and Content.

Executive producers are Daley Pearson, Charlie Aspinwall and Sophie Miller, with producers Sam Moore and Ross Allsopp of Ludo Studio, and co-producer Lauren Brown.

Principal photography will begin in July 2025, based at Screen Queensland Studios in Brisbane, with filming on the Gold Coast and Sunshine Coast. The project received support from the Queensland Government through the Screen Queensland Production Attraction Programme.Arts Minister John-Paul Langbrooke said at the start of filming that Ludo is an entrepreneurial success story in Queensland, and the government is pleased to support its first locally produced live-action feature film, which also hopes to showcase local stories and coastal scenery.
