It is set from January 1934 to January 1937 and revolves around the Long March of the Central Red Army and the multi-pronged Red Army.

《The Age of Awakening》's core creative team participated in the production.Chen Jin and Zhao Weidong serve as chief screenwriters, Wei Xiaoyu and Zhang Yongxin serve as screenwriters, Zhang Yongxin directs, Liu Guohua serves as chief producer, and Liang Jianyong and Yin Hong serve as general consultants.The series is fully directed by the Literary and Art Bureau of the Propaganda Department of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China and the TV Drama Department of the State Administration of Radio and Television.

Starring Yu Hewei, Wang Jinsong, Zhu Gangriyao, He Zhengjun, Wu Jian, Li Hongliang, Guo Guangping, Cao Lei and Zhai Xiaoxing.The range of characters extends from revolutionary leaders and generals to ordinary Red Army soldiers. Personal experiences are intertwined with team marches, military operations and historical decisions.

This narrative takes the Central Red Army as the main line, while showing the course of the First, Second, and Fourth Red Fronts and the 25th Red Army. It also takes into account the anti-Japanese advance team going north, the southern guerrillas, and the Northern Shaanxi Red Army.The experiences of different teams are included in the same time frame. Battles such as the bloody battle on the Xiangjiang River, the fourth crossing of the Chishui River, the forced crossing of the Dadu River, and the flying capture of the Luding Bridge will appear together with scenes such as “Truth Trail”, Loushanguan Victory, Yihai Alliance, and “Half Quilt”.

Important nodes such as the Channel Meeting, Zunyi Meeting, Jiming Three Provinces Meeting, Lianghekou Meeting, Luhua Meeting, Bangluo Town Meeting, and Wayaobao Meeting connected the decision-making process of the Party and the Red Army during the Long March.

Repeating the Long March three times, six drafts of the script

The creation lasted more than five years.Chen Jin said that writing about the Long March is both physical and spiritual work. It requires going deep, detailed and thick in quality.The team retraced the Long March three times, sorted out the collections and relevant historical materials of museums along the route, reviewed and collected more than 30 million words of information, and absorbed new party history research results.There were six drafts of the script, totaling more than 700,000 words.

The filming stage has another set of scale: six large-scale cross-regional transitions, 457 days of pre-production, more than 700 scenes, more than 300,000 props, more than 30,000 costumes, and more than 40,000 extras.The crew restored more than 100 important scenes such as the Zunyi Conference site and Luding Bridge in a 1:1 ratio. From the architectural layout to slogans and military uniform patches, everything needed to be researched one by one.

The image uses 8.2K film-level photography equipment and supporting lighting systems, and is shot according to ultra-high-definition full-frame standards.The play also incorporates the form of printmaking, using knife-cut lines combined with freehand light and shadow to form the visual expression of some passages.

In previous exchanges about watching the film, researchers of party history, military history, and literary critics participated in the discussion.Liu Guohua talked about his creative desire for young audiences: “ hopes that the series can build a bridge between youth and history, so that the audience can understand the ideals and beliefs of the Red Army in facing death and the life force of survival in desperate situations.”
