Hulu and Disney+’s new series—Shōgun Season 1—is based on the best-selling novel of the same name by James Clavell.The story is set in feudal Japan and depicts the collision between two ambitious men from different worlds and a mysterious female samurai: John Blackthorne, an adventurous British sailor who was shipwrecked and ended up in Japan.The unfamiliar culture that will eventually reshape him; Toranaga, a shrewd and powerful daimyo who is on a collision course with his dangerous political rival; Lady Mariko, a woman with valuable skills but shady family connections who must prove her worthand loyalty.
The story is set in the 17th century. It depicts the Sengoku period's strongest military commander Toranaga Yoshii being surrounded by enemies.
