On June 15, 1950, at the groundbreaking ceremony of the Chengdu-Chongqing Railway, the regiment leader Ma Zutang handed the "Pioneering Pioneer" flag to Luo Xiangqian, the commander of the Pioneer Company.Luo Xiangqian led the soldiers to build the roadbed. He explored the layered filling and tamping method to solve the problem of insufficient stability of the roadbed.
In the autumn of 1950, the Korean War broke out and the volunteers entered North Korea to fight. Luo Xiangqian was left behind. He led a migrant worker brigade to build the Tuojiang Bridge, the largest bridge. Unexpectedly, it was sabotaged by secret agents and many migrant workers died.Luo Xiangqian vowed to repair the Chengdu-Chongqing Railway and comfort the fallen workers.
In the Baishu'ao tunnel section, he and technician Ye Lan were working with migrant workers when a landslide suddenly occurred. Many migrant workers were buried and Luo Xiangqian was suspended.After investigation, it was determined that the collapse was a geological disaster. Luo Xiangqian resumed his duties. The migrant workers worked overtime and the tunnel was quickly completed.
On July 1, 1952, the entire Chengdu-Chongqing Railway was opened to traffic.Luo Xiangqian and Ye Lan held a unique wedding in the carriage.
