Behind the scenes

naming inspiration

The naming of 《And Yet The Books》 comes from a short poem of the same name by the Polish-American poet Czeslaw Miłosz. “Despite the fires on the horizon, the castles exploding in the sky, and the tribes on their expeditions,The planets move, 'We live forever'”.

Preliminary preparation

The creative team did a lot of paper research in the early stage, and basically read all the books and reports that could be found. Not only the characters, but also various books were bought on the theme of each episode, and many professionals in the industry were interviewed, or people who were know-it-alls.

Post-production

The creative team had already decided to make animations when they first started planning with Bilibili. The chief planner of the documentary, Zhu Xianliang, made a request at that time that every documentary on Bilibili must be innovative, and he also hoped that the animation would become the documentary.highlights.Originally, it was difficult to film movies about books. Scholars are in a very static state, either reading or writing. Many of the things mentioned have passed and cannot be told using current lenses, so animation is used to supplement this aspect.shortcomings.The animation director of the documentary's animation team studied in the UK, and she provided a lot of creative ideas. When we first started making animations, we set a principle: the animations in each episode are combined with the original elements of the story. For example, the image of Zhu Yue in the first animation of the first episode was actually drawn by himself. The image was drawn by the animator with reference to Zhu Yue's painting style. The simple drawing style complements Zhu Yue's cold humor style. The first animation in the second episode is an animation made on a scene shot with a probe lens. There is a kind ofThe feeling of characters entering the book world from the real world and breaking the dimensional wall is like Alice falling into the rabbit hole; the third episode uses image elements from picture books, such as in Xiong Liang's story, the protagonist enters the wonderful world in the picture book, interact with the elements in the picture book to express the concept of “animism”; in the fourth episode - Peach Blossom Fish - the paragraph uses animation and projection techniques, and also uses water to create the effect of water light. In the fifth episodeThe animation of UP main character Xiao Yin combines the main character’s favorite notebook, with a small easter egg buried in it. An old library card in the background indeed says the book Xiao Yin read when he was a child.
